    Porto Empedocle is ideally located for those who like both leisure activities and exploring the ancient artifacts and ruins of centuries ago. The nearby harbor offers daily excursions to the Pelagie Islands. It is a short distance from the famous Turkish Steps, and a short drive or bus ride delivers you to the Valley of the Temples and the city of Agrigento.

Sicily is linked to the main Italian train network at Messina. Long distance trains from Rome and Naples cross the Straits of Messina by ferry and continue on to Palermo and Catania. Long-distance buses link Rome and Naples to Catania and Palermo.
