  2. Halifax is the capital city of Nova Scotia and the largest city in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada. The city has a rich maritime history being one of the world's great natural harbours, and an entry point for European immigration to Canada in the 19th and 20th centuries.

    Today, Halifax is a busy Atlantic seaport set on a steep headland beside its harbour. The Citadel, an old British fortress with a striking white clock tower, is the town's focal point and most significant sight. Amongst Halifax’s other tourist attractions are the Discovery Center, Halifax Metro Center - a large sports stadium, HMCS Sackville museum, Pier 21, Halifax's Province House and the Cathedral Church of all Saints.

    Halifax's main museums and art galleries include Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Fultz House Museum and the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History - full of local exhibits and educational / historic information about both Halifax and the state of Nova Scotia.

    Port Location – Cruise ships dock at Piers 20 – 22 which are located a short distance from the Halifax Metro centre.

    Transport Links - The Halifax International Airport is located about a half hour drive outside of Halifax, with direct daily flightsto/ from [Toronto], [Montreal], [Newark], [Ottawa], [Calgary], and limited service to a number of regional and holiday destinations. Direct connections to Europe are provided by an Air Canada flight to London's Heathrow airport with a stop in St. John's, Newfoundland; Thomas Cook Airlines also provides a direct flight to London's Gatwick airport.

    VIA Rail train station located in the south end of Halifax has daily trains leaving for connection trains in Montreal and Toronto to the North East US. Regional buses run to Dartmouth, Bedford and Sackville. A ferry service also operates between Halifax and Dartmouth.

    Public transport is provided by HRM's Metro Transit and taxis are available for getting around Halifax.
