The Faroe Islands or simply Faroes (meaning "Sheep Islands"), are a group of islands in Northern Europe, between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, between Iceland and Norway. The 18 islands in the Faroes group are undeniably beautiful and are one of those remote places that gets little publicity. Some of the most spectacular parts lie within easy reach of the capital, Tórshavn.

The seaside cliffs are teeming with birds, attract many visitors. The hiking is magnificent and varied, from craggy headlands with wild surf to desolate moorlands, from cascading waterfalls to snowcapped peaks. The ground is covered with wildflowers, and flocks of sheep scatter as you pass. Summer is the best time to visit, when the days are long and the weather passable.

80% of the population in the islands are connected by under-ocean tunnels, bridges and embankments which binds the 3 largest islands and 3 comparatively large islands to the northeast together, while the other two large islands to the south of the main area are connected to the main area with brand new modern, fast ferries. There are good roads that lead to every village in the islands except 7 of the smaller islands with only one village each.
