  1. Port Overview

  1. Bering Island, Commander Islands, Russia

  2. The village of Nikolskoye is home to 800 people, roughly three hundred of them Aleuts. Bering Island is a treeless island with hills. The island is foggy and is prone to earthquakes. The scant population on the island is involved mostly in fishing.

Located at the western-most point of the Aleutian Islands just east of the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Commander Islands represent Russia’s largest marine reserve, home to extraordinary wildlife including sperm, killer and humpback whales – and the rare Stejneger’s beaked whale – as well as Arctic foxes and thousands of fur seals, sea lions and sea otters. Spectacular bird cliffs welcome kittiwakes, puffins, guillemots, albatross and more.
