  2. Niuatoputapu is an island in the island nation of Tonga, Pacific Ocean. It is located in the north of the country, 300 km away from Vavaʻu near the border with Sāmoa. Niuatoputapu consists primarily of three villages: Hihifo (the largest village), Vaipoa, and Falehau.

    Niuatoputapu is surrounded by magnificent white beaches. The most beautiful beaches are on the north-west side of the main island and on Hunganga at the Palm Tree Resort. Visitors can enjoy snorkelling and swimming from the beach. Diving expeditions are offered for certified divers.

    Tafahi island lies 9km off the north coast of Niuatoputapu and is an extinct volcanic cone 656m high, with a base area of 3.42 sq km. You can climb the volcanic cone in a day and hike around the barren lava flows. There is a small village with approximately 100 inhabitants.
