  1. Port Overview

  1. Sendai, Japan

  2. Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region of Japan's Honshu island. It is divided into five districts: Aoba-ku, Izumi-ku, Miyagino-ku, Taihaku-ku and Wakabayashi-ku. It is not really a tourist city; however it has attractive tree-lined streets and a covered main shopping street.

Attractions include the Miyagi Museum of Art, Aoba Castle, Ōsaki Hachiman Shrine and the historic Rinno-ji temple. The city’s biggest festival is the August Tanabata. The festival begins with fireworks, then the streets are decorated, and parades fill the streets. In December, visitors enjoy the Pageant of Starlight when the Port of Sendai’s two main avenues are adorned with thousands of orange lights.
