Palmer Station is located on Anvers Island, a high mountainous island which is the largest feature in the Palmer Archipelago. It is Antarctica’s only U.S. station north of the Antarctic Circle. Construction was completed in 1968 and around 50 people can live at the station at one time.
The majority of the science research conducted at Palmer Station centers around marine biology. The station also houses year-round monitoring equipment for global seismic, atmospheric and UV monitoring networks. Palmer also hosts a radio receiver that studies lightning over the Western Hemisphere.
Wildlife you will possibly view are Elephant Seals, Leopard Seals, Fur Seals, Royal Penguins, King Penguins, Gentoo Penguins, Rockhopper Penguins, Albatross and miscellaneous Flight Birds.

Port Location – Ships anchor at Hero Inlet on Anver island, as it is too shallow to dock at Palmer Station.
Transport Links – Visits to the Antarctic Peninsula including the Palmer Archipelago, generally depart from Ushuaia in Argentina. There are daily Aerolineas Argentinas flights from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. LAN Chile (through its LAN Express services) flies a few times a week (currently three) from Santiago de Chile, stopping over in Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas.
