  1. Port Overview

  1. Yanrakynnot, Russia

  2. Yanrakynnot is the main settlement on Arakamchechen Island, an island in the Bering Sea. It lies north of Cape Chaplino, close to the coast of Chukotka. It is separated from the continental shore by an 8 km wide sound. Arakamchechen Island is 32 km long and has a maximum width of 21 Km. It has a mountaineous interior. South of it lies Yttygran Island. There is a 5 km wide sound between both. Many walruses live in rookeries in the shores of this island

Yanrakynnot is a perfect place to hike and observe both reindeer herding and local flora and fauna. The coastline and further inland tundra gently slope to the coast, with mountainous terrain only south of the village. The tundra allows limited reindeer herding and the village actually developed only when local Chukchi moved here to commence their marine mammal hunting
