  1. Port Overview

  1. Kanaga Island, Aleutians, Alaska

  2. Kanaga island is a part of the Andreanof Islands group of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. It is the 42nd largest island in the United States. The island's most notable feature is Mount Kanaga, volcano which last erupted in 1995.

Kanaga Island is home to one of the most southerly stratovolcanoes in the Aleutian arc. This nearly symmetric volcano was constructed in an older caldera called ancient Mount Kanaton. It has had seven known eruptions since 1763.

The most significant volcanic event observed on Kanaga was a series of lava flows erupting in 1906, when a trapper living on the island in 1906 experienced several earthquakes and witnessed lava pouring down both east and west sides of the cone, with the most recent eruption in mid-1993 and continuing intermittently through most of 1995 with steam and ash plumes rising to as high as 7.5 km
