Chagulak Island, Aleutians, Alaska

Chagulak Island is a small, uninhabited volcanic island in the Islands of Four Mountains group in the Aleutian Islands of southwestern Alaska, United States. The 3 km wide island consists of a single cone that reaches an elevation of 1,142 metres. Chagulak is a stratovolcano and is separated from the nearby Amukta Island by a channel; though the two islands are joined underwater. No eruptions have been recorded and very little is known about the volcano.

The sea and the sky are filled with a colony of nearly 1 million Fulmar birds at Chagulak Island. Along the steep cliffs and shorelines, unique geologic formations provide homes to Fulmars, gulls, eagles, and Horned Puffins. Half of the world's emperor geese spend their winters in the Aleutians. Once Aleutian Canada geese nested across these islands, but now they are rare and may be found only on remote Chagulak.
