  2. Mackay is a city on the eastern coast of Queensland, Australia, about 970 kilometres (603 mi) north of Brisbane, on the Pioneer River. Mackay is full of interesting shopping, dining and entertainment options, colourful markets and a lively arts scene.

    Mackay’s Artspace, Botanic Gardens, Bluewater Trail, Orchid House and art deco architecture are just some of the attractions worth exploring. There is an impressive Marina and beaches facing the Coral Sea. There a number of islands close by including Brampton, Keswick and Scawfell islands – all accessible by day cruise, charter boat or air.

    Travel Links – Mackay Airport (MKY) is 5km south of the city centre. It has services from QANTAS, Virgin Blue and Jetstar have frequent flights from Brisbane. Qantaslink have services to Cairns, Townsville, and Rockhampton. Tiger airways now offers direct flights from Melbourne.

    Queensland Rail has twice weekly services running from Mackay to Brisbane on the "Tilt Train"

    Mackay Transit Coaches operates from North Mackay to South Mackay. The area with the best service coverage is Mackay CBD.
