  1. Port Overview

  1. Lae, Papua New Guinea

  2. Lae is the capital city of Morobe province and the second largest city in Papua New Guinea. It is a major port and industrial centre and the gateway to the Highlands and the Islands in the Huon Gulf. It was also a strategic base for the Japanese during World War II, and is also known as the final stop for American aviator, Amelia Earhart before she disappeared.

In Lae's botanical gardens you will find brightly coloured birds, crocodiles, butterflies, turtles, fish and lizards and a display of exotic plants. Here also, is the Lae war cemetery. The Rainforest Habitat located next to the University of Technology is also worth a visit. It is 3000sq m of rainforest under a canopy, with a lake, raised walkways, semi-tame birds and beautiful flowers.
