  2. Helsingor is a city in Helsingør municipality on the northeast coast of the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. It is known internationally as the setting of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, whence the spelling 'Elsinore' originated.

    Helsingor is a very historical place with richly coloured, well preserved architecture and cobblestone streets. Attractions include castles, museums, churches, woods and golden, clean beaches.

    Kronborg Castle in Helsingor (Elsinore) is one of northern Europe's most significant Renaissance castles. It is the most famous castle in Denmark and is visited each year by about 200,000 people. It is of immense symbolic value to the Danish people and played a key role in the history of northern Europe in the 16th-18th centuries.

    Port Location – The Cruise ship port is approximately 500 metres from the town center of Helsingor. Cruise ships larger than 140 metres anchor outside the harbour and the passengers are tendered ashore.

    Transport Links – Most major airlines fly to Copenhagen Denmark. Delta, American Airlines, Air Canada, British Airways, Air France all offer flights. There are trains that run every twenty minutes from Kastrup Airport, Copenhagen directly to Helsingor. Travelling to Helsingor by train takes about an hour and costs about 60 crowns. There are also car rental agencies at the airport of course.

    Get the coastal train from Copenhagen Central Station or another station on the Malmö-Elsinore line.

    Take the ferry from Helsingborg. The trip takes about 20 minutes and the ships run at least every hour 24/7. Daytime there is a departure every 20 minutes. There are currently two ferry companies between Elsinore and Helsingborg; Scandlines and HH ferries.
