  1. Port Overview

  1. Vatnajökull Glacier, Iceland

  2. Vatkajokull is the largest glacier in Iceland. It is located in the south-east of the island, covering more than 8% of the country. It is classified as an ice cap glacier, with a size of 8,100 km², and an average thickness of the ice is 400 m, with a maximum thickness of 1,000 m.

There are still active vulcanos under the ice-cap. Seven central volcanoes are situated underneath the Vatnajokull ice-cap. Grimsvotn vulcano, Iceland's most active since the Middle Ages, erupted in 1996, 1998 and 2004.

The glacier can be explored via ski doo or jeep tours. Visitors can also experience ice climbing, mountaineering and whale watching.
