  2. Mollendo is a town bordering the Pacific Ocean in southern Peru. It is located in the Arequipa Region and is the capital of both the Islay Province and the Mollendo District. Mollendo is known for its antique homes and lovely beaches, which attract many tourists during the summer season.

    Attractions in Mollendo include the Levee Ratty, the Civic seat, the old railroad station, (which was constructed in the same factories as that of the Eiffel Tower), along with the Aquatic park. The greatest attraction however, is the 35 kilometers of beaches, perfect for swimming and nautical sports such as fishing and submarine hunting.

    The town is served by the standard gauge Southern Railway of Peru, which connects with Cuzco and Puno.
