  1. Port Overview

  1. Vulcano, Sicily

  2. Vulcano is a small volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 25 km north of Sicily and the southernmost of the Aeolian Islands. It is 21 square kilometres in area, rises to 499 metres, and contains several volcanic centres, including one of four active non-submarine volcanos in Italy and the formerly separate islet of Vulcanello.

Vulcano is the island closest to the Sicilian mainland. Ferries and hydrofoils stop here before going on to the other islands. If the wind is blowing in the right direction, you can smell the island's prevalent sulfurous fumes. Vulcano also has the best black volcanic sand beaches in the Aeolians. There are several hotels and cafes on Vulcano; other important attractions being the hot springs and sulfur mud baths.
