  1. Lavrion, Greece

  2. Lavrion (Lavrio) is a town in southeastern part of Attica, Greece and is one of the southernmost and the seat of the municipality of Lavreotiki. It is located about 60 km SE of Athens, SE of Keratea and N of Cape Sounio. Laurium is situated on a bay overlooking the island of Makronisos (ancient times: Helena) in the east.

Lavrion has a history of gold and silver mining which can be seen in its Mineralogical museum and metalworking exhibit. It is also considered a base from which to explore the nearby Cyclades Islands. The closest island is Kea which is approximately 7 km’s from Lavrion.

The port of Lavrion is changing faster than any town in Greece, opening tavernas, cafes and becoming an important ferry boat hub for the Cyclades Islands and home port for several cruise ships and sailboat companies.
