  2. Havelock is a coastal town in the Marlborough region on the south island of New Zealand. It is known as the green-shell mussel capital of the world. It is the major access point to the Pelorus Sound, one of the 2 major sounds of the Marlborough Sounds.

    Havelock was once a thriving gold mining town. Today the colonial buildings of main street Havelock house boutique art and craft galleries, cafes, and food establishments.

    Among the town's former residents were rocket scientist William Pickering and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ernest Rutherford.
