Kemaman, Malaysia

Kemaman town (Chukai) is the administrative seat of Kemaman district in Terengganu, Malaysia. It is situated on the coast of the South China Sea. Kemaman town is the biggest town in southern Terengganu, and its position between the state capitals of Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu as well as proximity to the oil town of Kerteh has turned it into a major commercial hub for the region. Nearby Kemaman Port serves both as a fishing port and supply base for oil platforms off the Terengganu coast.

Just on the outskirts of town, along the river sits a little fishing village called Kuala Kemaman. Here you will find a riverside jetty featuring many restaurants and boats. The tiny river jetty is often crowded with colourful Terengganu fishing boats. It is not surprising therefore that there are quite a number of seafood restaurants in the centre of town. A good restaurant in town, facing the river called 'Malaysia coffeeshop'. The other flavour to look out for is Chukai's famous Malaysian Coffee. Kedai kopi Hai Peng, a local popular coffee shop has packed coffee grains for sale.

Many beaches are within a short driving distance from Chukai. They remain idyllic, undisturbed by the fast growing pace of development in Terengganu.

Travel Links – Kuala Terengganu's own Sultan Mahmud Airport (TGG) does field a number of flights daily from capital Kuala Lumpur and twice daily from Penang, as well as a thrice weekly international flight to Singapore by Firefly.
