  1. Port Overview

  1. Jurmo Island, Finland

  2. Jurmo is the name of an island and a village in the municipality of Korpo in the outer islands of the archipelago off of Turku, Finland. Directly south of the island of Korpo and 13 km northeast of the island of Utö, this elongated island is 5 km in length with an average width of 1 km. The island has had its own church since 1846 and a bird observatory.

The island of Jurmo is a barren island where no trees grow except for a small number of planted pines and a few birches and alders in a marsh. Attractions include the spectacular walk to the southern tip through the rocky lunar-surface, a small museum and the abandoned asbestos village. Take your time to read the headstones in the little graveyard, and you may get a glimpse into the harsh life not only of the inhabitants, but of unlucky travellers cast away here.

Transport Links – Visitors can easily board a supply ship that maintains a regular service between Jurmo and the main islands that are accessible by car or bus. There is also a ferry service from Nauvo which takes about three hours.
