  1. Port Overview

  1. Halki, Greece

  2. Halki (Chalki) is a Greek island and municipality in the Dodecanese archipelago in the Aegean Sea, some 6 km (4 mi) west of Rhodes. It is the smallest inhabited island of Dodecanese. Its permanent population is concentrated in the only village Emborio (Nimborio). The community is divided in two parts, Chorio (Emborio) and the port.

Nimborio is the port and only settlement of the island. It is an idyllic and picturesque village with beautiful red tiled Venetian style houses set around a horseshoe shaped bay. In Nimborio is the lovely church of Agios Nikolaos (built in 1861) with the highest bell tower in Dodecanese and a nice Hoklakia pebble mosaic yard. The hoclakia mosaics are made from black (also reddish sometimes) and white colour small sea pebbles.

The Monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos is worth a visit and the Monastery of Stavros hosts the celebrations on Timios Stavros day (14th of September). Alimnia, a green islet with excellent beaches, fresh water and a crusader castle.
