  2. Koumac is a municipality in the North Province of New Caledonia, approximately 362 km’s from the capital Noumea. It is the crossroads of the far North , the starting point for going to Poum or towards the East Coast by crossing the ranges in the direction of Ouégoa. A farming and mining municipality, the town is small, but with adequate facilities for residents and tourists.

    Attractions include the water sports centre in Pandop , the Koumac fair (September), horse riding, water activities and Pandop marina. The Koumac caves located near the village, are also a must. Not far from the caves, at the foot of the cliffs, sits a Madonna tucked away in the rock near a pretty grassland area.

    New Caledonia Airport is located in Païta, 52km northwest of the capital city of Noumea. Air France provides direct flights from Paris. Regular flights are available from Tokyo on Aircalin, as New Caledonia is very popular with the Japanese. Air New Zealand and Qantas also serve the airport. There are also flights from various Pacific nations, New Zealand, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
