  1. Port Overview

  1. Sulawesi

  2. Sulawesi is one of the four larger Sunda Islands of Indonesia and is situated between Borneo and the Maluku Islands. The huge area of Sulawesi and its four major ethnic groups, makes for a fascinating potpourri of people and cultures. It also offers spectacular mountains, scenic coastline, lakes, rice patties, and dense jungles.

There are 8 national parks on the island, of which 4 are mostly marine. The parks include Bogani Nani Wartabone, Lore Lindu National Park and Bunaken National Park which protects a rich coral ecosystem and has been proposed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sulawesi also presents a large array of unusual flora and fauna. It is home to such extraordinary animals as the babirusa, a pig-like creature with upward-curving tusks, three species of anoa, a rare pygmy buffalo resembling an antelope, four different varieties of black macaques, as well as saucer-eyed tarsier, maleo bird, a bit like a bush turkey and the marsupial cuscus.
