  2. Gunung Palung National Park lies in the regencies of North Kayong and Ketapang, in the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan, north of Ketapang and east of Sukadana.

    The park is notable for its diversity of habitat types, ranging from mangrove and freshwater swamp forest, to lowland alluvial (empran bench) forest and montane forest. It is one of only a handful of parks in the world where orangutans can be seen in the wild.

    Visitors to the park can view a variety of wildlife, including orangutans, jungle vegetation and beautiful waterfalls. There are hiking trails through the jungle and guided walks are available.

    Port Location - The port is located at Ketapang.

    Travel Links - The Gungung Palung National Park is accessible from Ketapang, which is can be reached by bus from Surabaya (285km) and from Gilimanuk in Bali. (45 mins). Ketapang is served by the Ketapang Airport (Rahadi Osman Airport). The airport has some connecting flights to Pontianak and Semarang via Pangkalan Bun. Since February 2011, Ketapang also has direct flight to Jakarta, by Penas Air. Ketapang can also be reached via ship from Pontianak (a six-hour speedboat ride, departing Pontianak daily at 6am). Pontianak's airport serves flights to Jakarta and Kuching (Malaysia).

    From Ketapang there are buses, taxis and motorbikes available to Sukadana (3 hours) which is closest to the National Park.
