Savu Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

Savu is the largest of a group of three islands, situated midway between Sumba and Rote, west of Timor, in Indonesia's eastern province, East Nusa Tenggara. The three islands are fringed by coral reef and sandy beaches. From April to October, deep ocean swells pound the south facing coastlines.

The capital city is Heb´a in the Western Savu district. Three kilometres from Heb´a is the traditional villagae of Namata, where ritual ceremonies are held and megalithic stones and traditional houses can be seen. Adjacent to the harbour at Heba, is a long white sandy beach which is great for snorkeling and swimming. Other attractions include an art and craft workshop at the village of Rai Lolo, 2km's from Heba.

Travel Links - Flights are available to Savu from Kupang. Flights are also available from Darwin and Bali to Waingapu on Sumba. From Sumba there are ferry connections to Savu.

Ferries connect the Savu island to Waingapoe, on Sumba, and Kupang in West Timor.
