  1. Port Overview

  1. Hasting Island, Myanmar

  2. Hastings Island is part of the Mergui Archipelago off the west coast of Myanmar (Burma). It is one of Asia‘s last island regions which remains virtually untouched and therefore looked upon as quite a part of paradise. The Mergui Archipelago has 800 remote islands, a national park, white beaches and indigenous people who roam the islands in dugout canoes. Only 1,700 visitors come here every year. That‘s an average of 2 per island. Per year...

Hastings Island which is 58 metres above sea level is located near Kampong Mah Puteh, a town on the west coast of Myanmar (Burma).

Whilst this region is not really a tourist destination yet it is becoming more visited and it does have a harbour where vessels can anchor near a naval base.

Hastings island is a narrow isthmus containing dense mangrove jungle. The land area is not cultivated and most of the natural vegetation is still intact. It has superb white sandy beaches on the western side. It is ideal for sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing. Some fishermen's families live on the beach, surviving on what they catch and hunting wild boar.

Cruises are available year round in the region as weather in the South East part is warm all year round – though both cruising and weather are better in the non monsoon period.

Weather in the south east of the region is tropical so it is warm and humid all year round. The Tropics don’t have seasons as such, they have the wet and dry periods. The wet season or monsoon period is from June to September. March is warmest with an average temperature of 33.8 °C at noon. January is coldest with an average temperature of 21.1 °C at night.

Hastings Island has no distinct temperature seasons, the temperature is relatively constant during the year. The temperatures at night are cooler than during daytime. September is on average the month with most sunshine. The wet season has a rainfall peak around September, the dry season is around the month of February.
