  2. The city of Fairbanks is located in Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, United States. It is the largest city in the Interior region of Alaska, and second largest in the state behind Anchorage.
    Many of the local events and attractions can provide access to the rich natural and cultural history of the Interior. The University of Alaska Museum of the North is worth a visit, Pioneer Park, an historic themed park, the historic sternwheeler Nenana, try your hand at gold-panning, shop or take a city tour.

    Fairbank’s Creamers Field Migratory Bird Refuge is excellent place for bird viewing. The Tanana Valley Sandhill Crane Festival in the fall offers another spectacular viewing opportunity.

    During winter there is a wealth of activities and sights to see from snowmobiling and cross-country skiing to dog mushing and ice fishing. The aurora borealis, nature's light show, illuminates the nights and is generally visible from September until the beginning of April.

    Travel Links – Serves both remote destinations in Alaska's interior and international cities. Direct flights are available from both Anchorage and Barrow. Direct flights are also sometimes served from Vancouver and Seattle. Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air and Era Aviation serve Fairbanks year round and are the primary air carriers. Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines operate in Fairbanks though their service is seasonal.

    During the summer the Alaska Railroad provides daily service between Anchorage and Fairbanks, stopping in Denali National Park and other spots along the way.
