  2. The Solomon Islands is a country in Melanesia, east of Papua New Guinea. The capital is Honiara, located on the island of Guadalcanal. The archipelago, consisting of nearly one thousand islands, stretches about 1,200 km's in a south-easterly direction from the Shortland Islands to the Santa Cruz islands. There are six major and approximately 992 smaller islands, atolls and reefs. The six biggest islands are Choiseul, New Georgia, Santa Isabel, Guadalcanal, Malaita and Makira. They are characterized by thickly-forested mountain ranges intersected by deep, narrow valleys.

    Attractions in the Solomons include bushwalking in and around Honiara, Savo volcano, village stays, trekking & biking in Guadalcanal and Malaita, kayaking in Western Province and Isabel. Other activities on offer include exploring Arnavon Islands and South Choiseul, biking in Rennell, surfing in Makira and around the Solomons

    Transport Links – The International Airport, Henderson, is 7 miles east of the capital 'Honiara'. Regular flights depart from Brisbane, Australia about 3 times a week. There is also flights departing from Vanuatu, Fiji and a handful of other South Pacific neighbours.

    It is also possible to travel from Southern Bougainville in Papa New Guinea by boat into the Solomons Islands Western province as locals routinely travel between the Solomons' Shortland Islands and Bougainville.
